Warranty & Care
Built for generations.
Backed by a 10-year structural warranty.
10 years on steel bases and Wolffmark structural connections
5 years on timber joinery and resin workmanship.
Wolffmark furniture is made for long-term use. Our written warranty covers genuine defects in Wolffmark's construction and workmanship. It does not treat the natural character, normal ageing or ordinary wear of timber, resin and finishes as manufacturing defects.
This written warranty is additional to rights and remedies you may have under the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 and other applicable law. Nothing in this warranty limits or excludes rights that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded.
10-year structural warranty
For 10 years from the date the piece is delivered or collected, Wolffmark warrants the original purchaser against:
- structural failure of a Wolffmark steel base caused by defective fabrication or workmanship
- failure of mechanical fixings or connectors installed by Wolffmark between a tabletop and its base
- failure of other non-timber structural components fabricated or assembled by Wolffmark where the failure is caused by defective workmanship
The structural warranty applies to normal indoor use of the piece for its intended purpose unless Wolffmark has expressly agreed in writing that the piece is suitable for another use.
5-year timber joinery and resin workmanship warranty
For 5 years from the date the piece is delivered or collected, Wolffmark warrants the original purchaser against material failure caused by defective Wolffmark workmanship in:
- structural timber joints
- bonded or joined timber components
- resin work where material separation, delamination or comparable failure is attributable to the original workmanship
- other Wolffmark workmanship that materially affects the structure or ordinary use of the piece
Natural timber is not uniform
Every Wolffmark piece is made from individual timber.
Timber varies naturally in hardness, grain, colour, figure, density and movement. Knots, natural edges, mineral or colour variation, historic marks, small voids, surface character and other evidence carried by the timber may form part of the finished piece.
These characteristics are not defects merely because they are irregular or different from another piece of timber.
Timber also responds to its environment. Changes in humidity, temperature and sunlight can cause small changes in dimension, colour and surface appearance over time.
Minor seasonal movement, small checks or splits, and other normal movement that do not materially affect the structure or ordinary use of the furniture are not manufacturing defects.
Timber hardness also differs by species. Dents, impressions and scratches caused through use or impact are wear or damage, not defects in manufacture.
Resin
Resin is part of the finished material, not an indestructible surface.
Normal surface scratching, wear, changes in gloss, minor marks from use, and gradual colour or appearance changes caused by age or ultraviolet light are not manufacturing defects.
Small features or imperfections that are visible in the completed piece at the time of purchase and form part of its finished appearance are not defects merely because the surface is not visually uniform.
The warranty does cover a material resin failure where the evidence shows that the failure was caused by defective Wolffmark workmanship.
The finished piece
Completed Wolffmark furniture is sold as an individual finished piece.
The photographs, description and dimensions on the product page are intended to show the actual piece as accurately as reasonably possible. Customers are welcome to arrange a viewing in Tauranga before purchase.
Visible natural characteristics and intentionally retained features of the timber or resin form part of that finished piece.
Nothing in this section removes any right a customer has where goods do not match their description, are not of acceptable quality or otherwise fail to meet a guarantee required by law.
What the written warranty does not cover
The Wolffmark written warranty does not cover problems caused by:
- normal wear and ageing
- cosmetic changes to raw or clear-coated steel, including patina, minor surface oxidation, coating wear or scratches that do not impair structural integrity
- dents, scratches, chips, impact or accidental damage
- use of the furniture for a purpose it was not designed for
- excessive or abnormal loads
- standing water or prolonged moisture exposure
- flooding, leaks or unusually damp conditions
- hot objects placed directly on the surface
- harsh, abrasive or unsuitable cleaners
- solvents or chemicals not recommended for the finish
- prolonged or intense direct sunlight and associated colour change
- abnormal heat or placing the piece too close to a heat source
- outdoor use unless Wolffmark expressly supplied the piece for outdoor use
- failure to follow reasonable care instructions
- unauthorised alteration, drilling, refinishing or modification
- dismantling, moving or reassembly that damages the piece
- repair or modification by a third party where that work caused or contributed to the problem
- damage occurring after collection where transport was arranged independently by the customer, subject to any rights that still apply by law
This list does not exclude a claim where the underlying problem is in fact a defect or failure for which Wolffmark is responsible under applicable law.
Caring for your Wolffmark piece
Wolffmark furniture is intended to be used. Natural timber and hand-finished surfaces will develop signs of life over time.
Appropriate care protects the piece without trying to stop natural material from ageing.
Everyday care
- Wipe spills promptly.
- Use a soft, lightly damp cloth for routine cleaning.
- Avoid abrasive cleaners, scouring pads and harsh household chemicals.
- Do not allow water to sit on the surface for prolonged periods.
- Use trivets or heat protection beneath hot cookware and other hot objects.
- Use coasters and placemats where appropriate.
- Avoid dragging hard, rough or sharp objects across the surface.
- Lift rather than drag the furniture when moving it.
- Avoid prolonged intense direct sunlight where reasonably practical.
- Keep the furniture away from abnormal heat sources and unusually damp environments.
- Check that floors and supports are stable before positioning the piece.
Oil-finished timber
Many Wolffmark pieces use an oil finish such as Osmo.
An oil finish is a maintainable surface. Its appearance can change with use and it may eventually benefit from cleaning, maintenance or reapplication.
Do not apply another coating, polish or refinishing product without first checking that it is compatible with the existing finish.
Contact Wolffmark if you would like advice before refinishing or repairing a surface.
If something is wrong
Contact Wolffmark as soon as reasonably practical after you become aware of a possible defect.
Please send:
- your name
- the piece or invoice reference if available
- a description of the issue
- clear photographs
- any relevant information about when and how the issue appeared
Email: hello@wolffmark.co.nz
Wolffmark may ask for additional photographs, measurements or reasonable access to inspect the piece before determining the cause.
For a claim covered by the Wolffmark written warranty, Wolffmark will provide an appropriate remedy, which may include repairing the piece, repairing or replacing the affected component, or another reasonable remedy.
Your remedies under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 may differ depending on the nature and seriousness of any failure. Nothing in this written warranty limits those statutory remedies.
